Page Redesign to Reflect User Experience Best Practice
Redesigning a landing page to align with UX best practice and integrate a new required site design.
Sector: Federal
Challenge: Our team was tasked with improving the user experience and content contextualization on a resource landing page. The page needed to be improved to provide context to users about the resources and to fit within an evolving design system.
My Role: Content Strategy, Web Content Manager, Design Brainstorming.
Content Evaluation and Stakeholder Goals Discussions
I evaluated the content on this page with CS and UX best practices in mind. I determined that to improve the page, we needed to better organize the content to align with stakeholder priorities in a way that was visually useful for the user flow. We were also tasked with implementing the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) for this refresh.
Findings and Proposed Solutions
We brainstormed the best ways to present the content in a way that would be useful and engaging. We decided to use USWDS components and standards to improve the visual flow of the page. Moving the links into components would also us to highlight the important content and draw users to the resources.
Results
We restructured the content of this page to align with the U.S. Web Design System and highlighted the content according to stakeholder values. This improved usability, aligned the page with the required web design standards, and increased the visual engagement.

Before: The page had little to no visual elements and the important resources were buried in hyperlinks within the body content.
We adapted the content to fit in USWDS cards, guide cards, and promo boxes. This helped to prioritize the most relevant information and to help differentiate the resources for the user. We also utilized accordions to keep the page scroll at an appropriate length.
